Arc Raiders developers have published notes clarifying how the matchmaking system works in Topside. It prioritizes similar playstyles to improve fairness and enjoyment while preserving the unpredictability that defines the experience. Two adjustments now treat self-defense differently from initiating fights and reduce the weight of low-activity rounds.
Core Objectives of Matchmaking
The system aims for fairness by matching players with a similar likelihood of success, including equal squad sizes where possible. It also targets enjoyment by grouping Raiders whose past behavior suggests compatible playstyles. Both goals operate under constraints like queue times and latency.
How Playstyle Matching Works
Key rules
- Similarity raises the odds of a match but offers no guarantees
- Behavior shifts future lobbies gradually rather than instantly
- Playstyles exist on a continuous scale instead of binary categories
Common Matchmaking Myths
Clarifications from the team
- Lobbies are not split into only friendly or aggressive types
- A single kill does not immediately reclassify a player as PvP-focused
- No PvE-only servers exist and end-of-round surveys do not affect matching
- Loadouts, crossplay toggles, and looting knocked players have no impact
Recent Adjustments to Estimation
Two changes are now live. Defending against attacks is no longer weighted the same as starting fights, reducing misclassification of cautious players. Low-interaction rounds such as immediate surrenders now carry less influence on a Raider's profile.
